The 57-year-old mother of a juvenile was brought before a public prosecutor this week under a new fast-track legal process, following a break-in and vandalism at a school complex in the southeast Athens coastal district of Glyfada.
According to reports, her son, born in 2008, was allegedly identified through video surveillance footage in connection with the incident. Authorities arrested the woman on charges of neglecting the supervision of a minor, while the teen himself is currently being sought by police.
The incident involved significant looting and damages, school officials said. The perpetrators reportedly managed to enter the principal’s office, where they stole an undisclosed sum of money. However, the most substantial losses occurred in the teachers’ office, from which six computers were taken.
Extensive damage was reported throughout the school, as fire extinguishers were discharged in hallways and paint was used to deface walls with graffiti. Several classroom doors were also forced open.
Glyfada’s mayor, Giorgos Papanikolaou, posted this on his FB page on Wednesday.
