Murder Suspect Faces New Drug Charges in Northern Greece

Police say narcotics were discovered during a search of the property of a man already being held in custody over the killing of a 54-year-old whose body was allegedly dumped in a river.

A man already in pre-trial detention over a homicide case in northern Greece is now facing additional charges related to drug offenses after police uncovered narcotics during a search of his property, authorities said.

The investigation was carried out by the Northern Greece Organized Crime Unit and concerns one of two suspects accused in the killing of a 54-year-old man near Thessaloniki. According to police, the victim’s body was allegedly disposed of in a nearby river following the murder.

Authorities said intelligence gathered during the investigation indicated that the suspect was involved in the storage and distribution of illegal drugs in the Thessaloniki area. Acting on that information, officers conducted a search of the residence where he had been living, as well as a pigeon loft located on the property.

During the operation, police reportedly found and seized 70 grams of heroin hidden in a specially constructed compartment. Officers also confiscated 2.3 grams of unprocessed cannabis and 166 narcotic pills.

A criminal case has been opened against the suspect for violations of drug legislation. Police noted that he is already being held in custody in connection with the homicide investigation and has previously come to the attention of law enforcement for similar offenses.

The seized substances will undergo laboratory testing, while the case file will be forwarded to the competent prosecutorial authorities for further action.
