New testimony and evidence are shedding light on the movements of a 20-year-old suspect before and after the fatal stabbing of a 27-year-old man—identified as the son of a senior Greek police officer—in the Athens suburb of Agios Dimitrios.

The suspect, who has confessed to the killing, is set to testify before an investigating magistrate on Tuesday, as authorities continue to piece together the events surrounding the crime.

Killer and Victim’s former partner describes suspect’s violent behavior

Speaking to MEGA, the suspect’s former girlfriend described him as highly reactive and prone to violent behavior.

“Every time I mentioned someone—even as a joke—he reacted strongly. I didn’t think he would go as far as killing, but he had told me about past actions, that he was unruly and had hit someone before. I avoided talking to him about other boys,” she said.

She also referenced a tear-shaped tattoo on his face, which she said is often associated with individuals who have killed or attempted to kill. “When I jokingly asked him if he was a murderer, he replied, ‘Almost!,’” she added.

Suspect expresses remorse

In his statement to authorities, the 20-year-old expressed regret, claiming he did not intend to kill the victim.

“I did not wish to take the life of the 27-year-old. I had no such intention. I realized what had happened much later. I express my deep remorse for this tragic outcome,” he said.

Video evidence contradicts suspect’s claims

However, new video footage obtained by MEGA appears to contradict the suspect’s earlier testimony. He had claimed he used his stepfather’s car to travel to the meeting with the victim.

The footage instead shows him arriving in a rented vehicle, suggesting an attempt to mislead investigators.

The fatal encounter

According to the investigation, the suspect went to the meeting at Asyrmatos Park armed with a knife and accompanied by a friend. The two men had arranged to meet to settle personal differences.

During the encounter, the suspect stabbed the victim in the chest, delivering a fatal wound to the heart. He then fled the scene and attempted to cover his tracks—changing clothes, hiding the knife on the rooftop of his home, and even switching vehicles.

Shortly after the killing, he reportedly went out with his girlfriend and friends along the coastal road, about 30 minutes after the attack.

A friend told authorities: “When we arrived at K.’s house, we changed cars and he took a dark blue one that belongs to his stepfather.”

Eyewitness accounts reveal final moments

Two young women who knew both the suspect and the victim were aware of the planned meeting and later pressed the suspect for details.

“He told us exactly what happened. The victim showed up at Asyrmatos Park and greeted him. But the suspect lost control and, saying ‘Are you the one who’s messing with my relationship?’ pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the face and chest,” one of the women said.

She added that one of the girls present was crying and questioning how he could commit such an act, to which the suspect replied that he did it for their relationship and to stop the victim from interfering.

The three additional individuals accused of assisting the suspect after the crime are expected to stand trial on Monday.
