The family of lawyer Stavros Georgiou is calling for the harshest possible punishment for his killer. They have already filed to join the case as civil parties before the investigating judge handling the case.
Georgiou’s brother has already completed the process of joining the prosecution. The family is represented in this process by lawyer Nikos Galanis, who was a friend and the victim’s best man.
“The motive for the murder is not what has been presented,” says the family’s lawyer
In his statements, Galanis raised another point in the case, noting that the investigation should continue since there may be other people involved, and adding that the motive for the murder may not be what has been reported.
“I will ask the investigators and the homicide unit, whom I congratulate for the work they have done so far, to look into this. The motive is not necessarily what has been presented on social media. It’s probably something different,” Galanis said.
The lawyer also said that Georgiou’s twin daughters are in poor psychological condition following the loss of their father.
The 28-year-old cannot find a lawyer willing to defend him
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old defendant was brought to court again today at the former Evelpidon military academy building to have an older outstanding warrant against him executed, on charges of sexually abusing a minor and drug offenses, and to be given a deadline to respond to that charge as well.
According to reports, he is expected to respond to that case on Monday, and he still has no defense lawyer. Sources say several lawyers have already turned down his case, since the murder victim was a fellow member of the legal profession.
