The collapse of a balcony of a single-storey dilapidated building along a beachfront in the southern city of Corinth on Saturday claimed the life of a woman and slightly injured her two children.

The deadly incident occurred in the Kalamia beach area.

According to reports, the victim had been eating with her family at a nearby taverna when they returned to their parked their car. The latter was parked directly under the balcony.

According to the same information, the woman had arrived from Germany with her husband for the Easter holidays.
A new owner had reportedly purchased the building and in recent days had been carrying out structural repairs, but without having taken required safety measures in its exterior.

“The balcony fell here on the corner and crushed a woman, who died. The woman had three children, and the husband was from Germany; one of her young children and her daughter were injured,” an eyewitness was quoted as saying.
