The Greek island of Paros has been crowned the Best Island in the World for 2025 by Travel + Leisure, one of the most influential travel publications globally. The announcement came as part of the magazine’s annual World’s Best Awards, which celebrate the top destinations worldwide based on reader feedback.

Paros made a remarkable leap from its 24th position in 2024 to first place this year, achieving an impressive score of 96.50. The island won over thousands of readers with its rich culinary heritage, traditional villages, authentic hospitality, and diverse experiences — from pristine beaches and cultural routes to vibrant nightlife and distinctive local flavors.

The vote, now in its 30th year, is based entirely on traveler opinions. According to the Municipality of Paros, the recognition reflects current global travel preferences and highlights what modern travelers value most: authenticity, quality, and a strong local identity.

Greece Shines on the Global Tourism Map

Paros was not the only Greek destination to receive global acclaim this year. Greece had a strong presence across several categories in the 2025 World’s Best Awards:

  • Crete ranked 11th globally and 6th in Europe
  • Milos secured 16th place worldwide and 7th in Europe
  • Santorini and Mykonos also made the list of Europe’s top 15 islands, at 13th and 15th respectively

The city of Athens earned its own recognition as one of Europe’s leading urban destinations, placing 14th among European cities with a score of 86.69. Its historic depth and cultural character were key factors in its strong performance.

A Rising Star in Global Travel

Paros’s rise to the top is more than a win for a single island — it represents the growing appeal of Greece as a premier travel destination. The award underscores how travelers are increasingly seeking authentic, experience-rich locations over more commercialized alternatives.

With this new accolade, Paros cements its reputation as not just a hidden gem but a global benchmark in island tourism.
