A new warning message was sent through the 112 emergency alert system on Friday afternoon to residents of the Drymiskos area in Rethymno, due to the ongoing wildfire and repeated flare-ups.
Civil Protection is urging anyone in the Drymiskos area to move immediately toward Spili, following the instructions of the responsible authorities.
The new alert came shortly after a similar warning was issued for the areas of Gefyra and Lake Preveli, reflecting how quickly the fire fronts are shifting and the ongoing flare-ups caused by strong winds.
Large ground firefighting forces continue operating across the wider area of southern Rethymno, working to contain the active fire fronts. Authorities are urging residents to follow Civil Protection instructions and avoid any unnecessary movement in the affected areas.
