A 55-year-old woman on the Greek island of Rhodes is facing a new felony prosecution over allegations of sexual abuse involving underage twin siblings, in a case that began as a domestic violence investigation and has since expanded significantly.
The woman, who is already awaiting trial on misdemeanor charges, is now the subject of a prosecutor’s recommendation to stand trial before a Mixed Jury Court on three felony counts, including the alleged rape of minors.
Prosecutor seeks felony trial
After reviewing the evidence, the Rhodes Public Prosecutor’s Office concluded that there are sufficient indications to support felony charges against the defendant.
The charges include:
- The rape of minors, committed jointly with an unidentified male suspect.
- The sexual abuse of children under the age of 14 under aggravating circumstances due to the defendant’s close relationship with the children’s family.
- Child pornography through the production and possession of material involving violence and threats.
According to the prosecutor’s recommendation, the offences took place on Rhodes between June 2017 and June 30, 2022.
The woman is accused of acting together with an unidentified man to force the children into sexual acts while recording the incidents on a mobile phone.
She remains under restrictive conditions, including a ban on leaving Greece, mandatory monthly reporting to a police station and a prohibition on approaching the children within 200 meters.
Separate misdemeanor case pending
The defendant is also scheduled to appear before a misdemeanor court on July 29, 2026, following an earlier postponement.
In that case, she faces charges including offending the children’s sexual dignity, performing sexual acts in the presence of children under 14 and abusing minors by exposing them to sexually explicit material.
According to the case file, prosecutors state that between April 2019 and July 2022 she committed acts including placing hot stones inside the children’s swimsuits and showing them pornographic videos.
Investigation and Evidence
The investigation initially began as a social inquiry into domestic violence rather than allegations of sexual abuse. The defendant appeared before police on July 29, 2022, when her mobile phone was confiscated.
Investigators reported that no child pornography was found on the device. The case file includes a preliminary psychological assessment describing abuse based on statements made by the children. However, during later interviews with police conducted in the presence of a child psychologist, the minors did not fully confirm all of their initial allegations.
According to their testimony, the boy said that the defendant placed hot stones inside the children’s swimsuits and forced them to dance naked. The girl said that the woman touched her inappropriately and claimed that a third man also sexually abused the siblings. Forensic medical examinations did not identify findings confirming sexual abuse.
