Greek police have arrested a 62-year-old man after investigators discovered hundreds of videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children during a search of his home, authorities said Friday.

According to the Hellenic Police (ELAS), the investigation was conducted by Greece’s Cyber Crime Division and resulted in charges related to child pornography.

Greece’s Cyber Crime Division launched the investigation after receiving intelligence from authorities in the United States, South Africa and Spain. The information was shared through two international operations, Operation KAMI and Operation Python, which target the online distribution of child sexual abuse material.

Working alongside foreign law enforcement agencies, investigators analyzed digital evidence and the suspect’s online activity, ultimately identifying him and locating his residence.

A court-authorized search was carried out at the man’s home on Wednesday, June 3, in the presence of a judicial official. During the operation, officers seized two mobile phones and a microSD memory card.

An initial examination of the devices allegedly uncovered hundreds of video files containing material depicting the sexual exploitation of children. Authorities said the content primarily involved minors under the age of 15.

Police also noted that the 62-year-old had previously come to the attention of authorities for similar offenses and had been placed in pretrial detention in an earlier case.

The seized digital evidence will now be sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for forensic analysis, while the suspect has been referred to the competent prosecutorial authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing.
