A sudden and severe change in weather hit the Greek island of Corfu on Tuesday night, bringing powerful winds, torrential rain and widespread disruption after days of intense heat.
Within minutes, calm conditions and high temperatures gave way to stormy weather, as the system moved from the Diapontia Islands towards Corfu, battering large parts of the island.
Trees uprooted and roads blocked
The storm caused significant damage, particularly in northern and central Corfu, where strong winds uprooted trees and blocked several roads.
Emergency services and Civil Protection teams were deployed to clear fallen trees and restore access to affected areas, while electricity crews worked to repair damage to the power network.
According to local reports, some of the strongest winds were recorded in northern Corfu, where multiple roads were affected by fallen trees and debris.

Widespread power cuts
The severe weather also triggered extensive power outages, leaving large parts of the island without electricity.
Several communities in northern Corfu remained without power after tree branches fell onto electricity lines and damaged other sections of the distribution network. Repair crews continued working to restore supply.
Small fires quickly contained
The storm also sparked two small fires after falling trees damaged infrastructure in separate locations.
Firefighters responded rapidly to incidents in Peroulades and Almyros Acharavi, bringing both fires under control before they could spread.
Authorities remain on alert as crews continue clearing damaged roads and restoring electricity across the affected areas.
