If you’ve been eyeing a pair of shoes that’s just a bit too pricey, today may be your chance to snap it up at a discount. Greece’s 2026 summer sales officially kick off today, Monday, July 13.
Retailers will run sales through Monday, August 13, with certain retailers operating exceptionally on Sunday, July 19 as well.
For shops that will open on July 19, they are legally entitled to operate from 11:00am- 8:pm. However, as Thessaloniki and Athens’ commercial associations have encouraged shops to close by 18:00, customers are best advised to double check operating times directly with shops.
As in previous years, summer sales in Greece are governed by a law and special provisions designed to protect consumers. Under the current legal framework, every price reduction announcement must clearly display the previous price—defined as the lowest price at which the product was sold during the 30 days preceding the first discount.
Retailers may present discounts:
- as a percentage,
- as a fixed monetary reduction, or
- by displaying both the old and new prices.
In all cases, however, the previous price must always be shown, as required by Greek law and the updated Code of Conduct.
