Greek authorities are focusing on phone records as they continue investigating the death of a 42-year-old paramedic on the island of Syros, hoping the evidence will clarify what happened inside the home where the fatal incident occurred and reveal the true motive behind the meeting.
The renewed focus follows the release of the forensic report and security camera images captured outside the residence.
According to information cited in the report, the forensic examination concluded that the woman died from a chest wound inflicted by a sharp object. Investigators believe she sustained a single stab wound that pierced her lung and proved fatal. The injury is believed to have been caused by a knife.
A 41-year-old man has been charged with fatal bodily harm, while his 30-year-old wife faces a charge of complicity. Both were granted time to appear before an investigating magistrate on Tuesday, July 28.
During a search of the couple’s home, authorities recovered two knives of different sizes. Investigators are working to determine which, if either, was used in the incident and whether one of the knives may have belonged to the victim.
Police also seized more than €10,000 in cash, shotguns, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, all of which are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
Security Footage Raises New Questions
Security camera images reportedly show the 42-year-old woman outside the home with her facial features concealed. Subsequent footage appears to show her running away from the residence while being pursued by the couple. In one image, the 41-year-old man is seen chasing her while carrying a chair.
Investigators say the central question remains what occurred inside the house before the confrontation and what motivated the meeting that ultimately ended in the woman’s death.
The couple has claimed that the 42-year-old went to their home intending to rob them. However, according to the report, people close to the paramedic reject that account. They note that she was wearing the reflective work pants from her job, rang the doorbell, and that the events unfolded in broad daylight.
Authorities are now concentrating on obtaining access to the parties’ phone communications and analyzing their contacts.
