A 14-year-old boy was arrested in Patras on Tuesday after a fire broke out near the suburban railway, temporarily disrupting train services. Police are searching for two additional suspects believed to have been involved.
The blaze ignited in dry reeds below the Panachaiki stadium, close to the railway tracks. Residents who noticed the smoke quickly alerted both the fire brigade and police. Firefighters responded with vehicles and crews, managing to bring the fire under control before it spread further.
According to reports, the teenager was at the scene with the two other suspects when the fire started. Local residents handed him over to police, while the other two fled. He is now facing charges of complicity in arson.
Train operations were briefly interrupted between the Bozaitika and Agios Andreas stations. Hellenic Train announced that suburban services were suspended at 8:12 a.m. following instructions from the Fire Service and the national rail operator.
Passengers on train 11304, traveling from Rio to Agios Andreas, were transferred to their final destination by bus. By 8:48 a.m., services had resumed, with the company noting that traffic would gradually return to normal.
