A 17-year-old boy died after suddenly collapsing in a public square in the central Greek city of Lamia late Monday night, according to local reports.
The teenager was with a group of friends shortly before midnight when he collapsed in the square of the community where he lived.
His friends immediately alerted family members, who began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before an ambulance from Greece’s National Center for Emergency Care (EKAB) arrived at the scene.
Paramedics continued resuscitation efforts while transporting the teenager to Lamia General Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead.
Police responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the teenager’s death.
