Drivers leaving Thessaloniki on Sunday morning faced significant delays as holidaymakers and day-trippers flooded the city’s main exit routes, creating congestion on key roads.
Traffic was particularly heavy at the Malgara toll station, where long queues formed from around 10:00 a.m. Vehicles moved at slow “stop-and-go” speeds, with waiting times reaching about 15 minutes.
Delays Toward Halkidiki and Kavala
The increased traffic was driven largely by summer excursions to nearby coastal destinations, as many residents headed toward beaches in Halkidiki, as well as longer holiday trips.
Heavy flows and delays were reported on the Thessaloniki–Nea Moudania national road, a main route for travelers heading toward Halkidiki’s popular beaches.
Additional congestion was recorded at the Analipsi toll station, affecting drivers traveling east toward Kavala.
