The footage, broadcast by Mega Channel on Tuesday, appears to show the woman wearing dark clothing, a hat, a surgical mask and gloves. She is seen closing the lid of one jar and returning it to a cupboard, then repeating the action with a second jar after allegedly adding a substance to its contents.
The woman, 41, was arrested in Peristeri, in west Athens, on Sunday after her estranged husband, a military physician, alerted police. The couple, who have a three-and-a-half-year-old child and remain legally married, have been living separately since February 2025.
According to reports, the man had become suspicious after experiencing recurring symptoms over several months, including altered taste, dry mouth, dilated pupils, a rapid heartbeat and hallucinations. These symptoms were reported as potentially consistent with atropine exposure, but the allegations have not been established by publicly reported toxicology findings.
His suspicions reportedly intensified after a family meal at a restaurant in August. He later reviewed security footage from the establishment and allegedly saw his wife adding a substance to his water. He subsequently installed cameras at his home, where she was allegedly recorded entering with a duplicate key and handling food and water.
The footage prompted him to contact police, who arrested the woman. Her parents, a 70-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, were also detained after reportedly waiting in a car nearby.
Police said a search of the woman’s vehicle uncovered a 10-milliliter bottle of atropine, an unidentified powder, a surgical mask, gloves and a syringe. Investigators also seized a jar of honey, three pepper jars, a packet of oats and bottled water from the home. The items were sent to the State General Chemistry Laboratory for analysis.
The woman faces a charge of attempted dangerous bodily harm, while her parents are accused of involvement in the alleged offense. The motive remains unproven, and claims that the alleged acts were driven by resentment over the separation have not been established as fact.
The hearing was postponed until Oct. 26. Until then, the woman is barred from approaching or contacting her estranged husband.
Toxicology results and laboratory analyses are expected to be central to the investigation.
