A 54-year-old woman has been arrested in northern Greece after two young children were found living in what authorities described as unsafe and unsanitary conditions.
The case came to light following reports about the welfare of the children, aged four and six, who had been left in the woman’s care by their mother.
Children Removed From the Property
According to police, the children’s 33-year-old mother, who works outside the city of Thessaloniki, had entrusted their care to the 54-year-old during her absence.
Officers searched the woman’s home alongside a municipal social worker and found conditions that were deemed unsuitable for children and potentially hazardous to their health.
During the inspection, authorities discovered animal waste and what police described as a generally unhygienic living environment. The children were immediately removed from the property.
Now in the Care of a Relative
The two children, a boy and a girl, have been placed in the care of their uncle.
Police have opened a criminal case against the 54-year-old, while legal proceedings are now underway. The investigation is being handled by the local crime investigation unit.
