A woman was attacked outside her home in Palaio Faliro, a coastal suburb of Athens, after an unknown man attempted to snatch her bag as she entered her apartment building.
The incident took place in the middle of the day, when the woman was returning to her home carrying shopping bags. As she unlocked the entrance door of the building, she noticed a man approaching from behind before he grabbed her and pulled her to the ground.
“I put the keys in the door and, out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone coming quickly from behind. He grabbed me, threw me down and pulled my bag,” the woman said.
Residents Alarmed by Rising Incidents
The woman said she was shocked by the attack, describing how the man followed her without her noticing before making his move inside the building’s entrance area.
After initially being caught off guard, she began shouting and resisted the attempt to take her bag.
“I started screaming. He was pulling me, but I did not give up. I was shouting and holding onto my bag,” she said.
Her cries alerted residents of the apartment building, who came outside to see what was happening. One resident attempted to chase the attacker, but he managed to escape.
According to local residents, thefts and similar incidents have become frequent in the wider Palaio Faliro area, particularly along the coastal zone. They are calling for increased police presence and improved security measures to address concerns over crime in the neighborhood.
