What was meant to be a moment of joy turned into a nightmare for a young couple vacationing on the Greek island of Lefkada, when a 24-year-old woman collapsed shortly after her partner proposed to her. She is now in critical condition, diagnosed with a severe brain hemorrhage.

The shocking incident occurred on Saturday evening (July 5) in the mountain village of Eglouvi, a scenic location known for its traditional charm and panoramic views. The young couple, both tourists from the Czech Republic, had made the trip to the Prophet Elias church, where the 25-year-old man planned to ask his partner to marry him.

According to local media reports, moments after the man got down on one knee, the woman lost consciousness and collapsed. Witnesses describe the scene as deeply distressing, with the fiancé panicked and desperately seeking help.

Emergency services, including the fire brigade, military personnel, and an ambulance, were quickly mobilized. The woman was initially taken to a local hospital in Lefkada, where doctors discovered extensive cerebral bleeding. She was intubated immediately and later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit in Ioannina, where she remains in critical condition.

Her partner is said to be in a state of shock, struggling to process how a romantic gesture turned into a life-threatening emergency.

The incident has cast a somber shadow over the area, which is typically a quiet summer destination for couples and families seeking relaxation and natural beauty.

A Stunning Location, A Devastating Turn

The church of Prophet Elias, perched high in the mountains of Lefkada, is a popular spot for couples and sightseers. It is often chosen for intimate moments like proposals due to its remote, serene atmosphere and breathtaking views.

The exact medical cause of the hemorrhage remains unclear, and no prior health conditions have been reported at this time.

Local authorities are not treating the incident as suspicious in any way.
