A 45-year-old woman remains hospitalized with serious injuries after part of a ceiling collapsed inside a restaurant at a shopping mall in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the mall’s food court area and has triggered an urgent judicial investigation.

According to authorities, a preliminary inquiry has been ordered to examine potential violations of building safety regulations and the offense of causing danger to the public. The investigation has been assigned to the local police department, which has also been instructed to inspect all food and dining establishments within the shopping complex. A case file is already being compiled, incorporating the findings of the ongoing probe.

The woman was transported by ambulance to a major public hospital in Thessaloniki, where she continues to receive treatment. Speaking publicly about the incident, she described losing consciousness after the ceiling structure fell directly onto her head. Doctors diagnosed multiple injuries, including facial trauma, fractures, and extensive wounds requiring prolonged surgical stitching.

She described herself as a multiple-trauma patient and said she narrowly escaped death. The woman also announced her intention to pursue legal action against those responsible, stressing that the incident could have been even more tragic had children standing nearby been struck instead.
