Launching direct flights between Greece and South Korea topped the agenda of talks between Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and South Korea’s Ambassador to Greece Ju-seong Lim this week.

Expanding into the South Korean market is a top priority for the Greek Tourism Ministry, which is seeking to diversify its visitor base and open new travel corridors.

The meeting was held ahead of Kefalogianni’s upcoming official visit to South Korea, part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral ties in tourism. During her trip, discussions are expected to focus on boosting tourist flows between the two countries, attracting investments in tourism enterprise, and promoting joint marketing initiatives.

Talks also touched on travel trends, with special interest tourism emerging as a key area of cooperation. South Korean travelers have shown growing interest in religious, cultural, and gastronomic experiences in Greece.

Kefalogianni also extended an invitation to her newly appointed South Korean counterpart, Chae Hwi-young, to visit Greece in the near future and sign a Memorandum of Cooperation in tourism.

Greece’s tourism strategy now prioritizes increasing visitor spending and extending the season beyond the traditional summer months. In 2024, the country welcomed 40.7 million tourists, generating 21.6 billion euros in tourism-related revenue.
