The Greek island of Ios has attracted significant international attention following two extensive features in the British newspaper The Times, which highlighted the Cycladic destination as one of Greece’s most appealing holiday spots.

The articles showcased different facets of the island’s identity, portraying Ios as a destination that successfully blends natural beauty, authenticity, cultural heritage and a contemporary tourism offering.

In its roundup of the best Greek islands to visit in 2026, The Times suggested that Ios had moved beyond its long-standing reputation as a party destination. Instead, the island was presented as a place offering refined and high-quality travel experiences, appealing to visitors seeking authenticity and a deeper connection with the destinations they explore.

Particular attention was given to boat excursions that allow travellers to discover secluded beaches and hidden coves of unspoiled beauty. Among the island’s standout attractions, Manganari Beach was singled out as one of Ios’ most spectacular natural settings.

The newspaper also highlighted Chora as an exemplary expression of Cycladic architecture, noting its picturesque alleyways, distinctive atmosphere and prime locations for enjoying both sunset views and local gastronomy. In a separate feature, The Times ranked Chora of Ios among Greece’s most remarkable traditional settlements.

According to the publication, visitors are greeted by a striking landscape of whitewashed cubic houses, traditional windmills and the quintessential scenery of the Cyclades, creating a setting of exceptional charm and aesthetic appeal.

Readers were encouraged to explore Chora’s winding alleyways up to the hilltop church of Panagia Gremiotissa, celebrated for its panoramic Aegean views and spectacular sunsets. The feature also highlighted key cultural landmarks, including the prehistoric settlement of Skarkos and the Tomb of Homer, underscoring Ios’ rich historical and archaeological heritage.

Commenting on the international recognition, Ios Mayor Gkikas Gkikas said that, at a time of intense competition and mounting challenges for global tourism, the continued promotion of the island’s unique strengths and competitive advantages was particularly important.
