The Greek island of Karpathos is set to take center stage on German television in the coming months. Following close coordination with the Municipality of Karpathos, Marco Polo TV will air a series of episodes dedicated to the second-largest island of the Dodecanese, showcasing both its celebrated highlights and its lesser-known treasures.
The program “Mal ganz anders” will present Karpathos from a fresh, unexpected angle, focusing on human stories, time-honored recipes, untouched natural beauty and alternative activities.
Meanwhile, the show “Inside” will highlight the island’s classic travel appeal—from exotic beaches and picturesque villages to enduring traditions and local flavors.
Marco Polo TV, regarded as Germany’s leading travel broadcaster, airs around the clock and reaches tens of millions of viewers across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and additional markets through strategic partnerships.
The initiative follows a planned visit by a TV crew to the island at the invitation of the Municipality. According to the Athens–Macedonian News Agency, the broadcaster recently responded positively to the municipality’s proposal for renewed screenings, aiming to boost the island’s visibility ahead of the launch of direct flights from Germany to Karpathos next summer.
Specifically, Germanwings will introduce a new direct route from Düsseldorf to Karpathos, further strengthening the island’s position in the German travel market.
The development emerged with decisive support from the Greek National Tourism Organization, as well as discussions between the Municipality and the airline during the WTM London 2024 and ITB Berlin 2025 exhibitions—part of a broader effort to improve connectivity with key European cities, attract new visitor segments and extend the tourism season beyond peak months.
