An appellate judge presiding over a case in Tirana, Albania was shot dead in his courtroom on Monday by a defendant after reading out an unfavorable verdict against the latter.
The victim was identified as judge Astrit Kalaja. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect, identified Elvis Shkëmbi, reportedly entered the courthouse armed and opened fired three times during the session. Two others were injured.
The alleged gunman swiftly arrested at the scene and a weapon was recovered. Albanian media later said the suspect was involved in a property dispute linked to an ongoing case.
