The riots and civil unrest that broke out across France following Paris Saint-Germain’s capture of the European trophy are fueling a surge in support for far-right political figures. This is the main finding of a poll conducted between May 31 and June 2 and published today by the French newspaper Le Figaro.
More specifically, when asked which political figure they would most like to see play an important role in the coming months and years, 47% of respondents named Jordan Bardella, president of the far-right National Rally party, while 40% named the party’s longtime leader Marine Le Pen. A month earlier, those figures stood at 41% and 36% respectively. Other far-right personalities also saw their approval ratings climb, among them Marion Marechal, Eric Ciotti, and Robert Menard.
As for other potential contenders in the 2027 presidential race, former Prime Ministers under President Macron, Edouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal, placed third and fourth with 29% and 28% respectively. Center-right hopefuls Bruno Retailleau and Gerald Darmanin came in at 24% and 22%, while Raphael Glucksmann, who is aligned with the Socialist Party, registered 19%.
