President Donald Trump said he would speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin following the failed outcome of the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine for a ceasefire in Istanbul on Friday.

In a post on Truth Social, the U.S. president announced that he would have a phone call with Vladimir Putin.

Specifically, he stated that he would speak with the Russian president on Monday at 10:00 a.m. to discuss the war in Ukraine.

His post read:

“I WILL BE SPEAKING, BY TELEPHONE, TO PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN OF RUSSIA ON MONDAY, AT 10:00 A.M. THE SUBJECTS OF THE CALL WILL BE, STOPPING THE “BLOODBATH” THAT IS KILLING, ON AVERAGE, MORE THAN 5000 RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS A WEEK, AND TRADE. I WILL THEN BE SPEAKING TO PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY OF UKRAINE AND THEN, WITH PRESIDENT ZELENSKYY, VARIOUS MEMBERS OF NATO. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A PRODUCTIVE DAY, A CEASEFIRE WILL TAKE PLACE, AND THIS VERY VIOLENT WAR, A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, WILL END. GOD BLESS US ALL!!!”

On Friday, Trump had stated that he plans to meet with the Russian president “as soon as we can arrange it.” He also made sure to justify Putin’s absence from the brief trilateral talks (Russia, Ukraine, Turkey) held in Istanbul, repeating that he wasn’t surprised by the Russian leader’s decision not to participate.

In an interview today, Saturday, on Fox News from Abu Dhabi, the U.S. President said he had a very good relationship with Putin. “I think we will reach an agreement. We need to meet, and I think we’ll probably schedule it.”

He also added that he’s grown tired of letting others “go and meet and do all the rest,” implying that he is ready to take a more active role.

“I think Putin is tired of all this too,” he added, suggesting that pressure may be applied if necessary.
