Leaving rom-coms behind her, Jennifer Aniston, the beloved Friends alum has been steadily redefining her career with layered, dramatic roles — from her Emmy-nominated turn in The Morning Show to a new venture that promises to be her boldest yet.

In a surprising and buzzworthy move, Aniston is set to star as a controlling, emotionally destructive mother in an upcoming Apple TV+ drama inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s explosive memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died.

The best-selling book, released in 2022, became an instant global sensation for its raw honesty and unflinching look at McCurdy’s painful childhood under the thumb of an abusive, narcissistic parent.

McCurdy, who rose to fame as a Nickelodeon child star on iCarly and Sam & Cat, used her memoir to pull back the curtain on the disturbing reality behind her glossy on-screen life. The memoir’s harrowing themes of codependence, control, and hidden trauma struck a chord with readers around the world — and now, that story is heading to the screen.

The 10-episode series, greenlit by Apple TV+, is being co-written by McCurdy herself alongside Ari Katcher, with both serving as co-showrunners. Aniston isn’t just stepping into the emotionally intense lead role — she’ll also executive produce the project.

Though the series will take creative liberties rather than strictly follow the memoir, it will explore the complex dynamic between a rising young star and her overbearing mother — a woman who’s willing to sacrifice anything (and anyone) to live vicariously through her daughter’s fame.

With its promise of emotional depth, raw storytelling, and a career-redefining performance from Aniston, the series is already shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the upcoming TV season.
