After the second semi-final concluded Thursday night, betting odds on who is more likely to be crowned the winner in thes year’s Eurovision Song Contest’s final on Saturday are becoming clearer.
Akylas may have stolen the spotlight during Tuesday’s first semifinal but its odds of being crowned Eurovision’s favorite began to slip. Shortly after his performance, the Greek entry remained in second place but rapidly lost ground to overwhelming favorite Finland which had a 37% chance of victory.
Come Friday morning, after the other 15 contestants performed, Greece dropped from second to third place in the rankings, being surpassed by Australia.
Current odds give Finland a commanding 43% chance of victory, Australia a 15% chance and Greece an 8% chance. Directly behind the Greek entry is Israel with a 7% chance, followed by Romania with 5%.
Despite the shift in betting odds, the video of Akylas’ semifinal performance has already generated significantly higher engagement and more YouTube views than Finland’s entry, while the overwhelming majority of comments beneath the video have been highly enthusiastic.
It is also worth noting that last year bookmakers continued to favor Sweden as the clear frontrunner almost until the final itself. In the end, however, JJ from Austria emerged victorious.
