More than seven million passengers passed through Greece’s 14 regional airports operated by Fraport Greece in August, with total traffic reaching 7.1 million, up 5.1% from the same month last year.
The August 2026 total represented an increase of about 345,000 passengers compared with August 2025, as strong international traffic continued to drive growth across the regional airport network.
Two developments stood out during the month. First, total passenger traffic across the 14 airports exceeded seven million in a single month for the first time, while the Corfu Airport handled more than one million passengers.
International traffic was the main driver of the year-on-year increase, rising 5% in August. The strongest contributions came from the airports of Corfu, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Chania, Kefalonia, Mykonos and Skiathos.
Traffic to and from the Middle East also remained resilient despite the conflict in the wider region. Passenger numbers on Middle Eastern routes increased 20.6% in August, with no negative impact from the heightened geopolitical tensions.
Load factors on Middle Eastern routes remained broadly stable at 82.1%, compared with 82.4% a year earlier. The increase in overall flight numbers indicates that demand for travel to and from the region continues to grow.
Across the 14-airport network, however, the average load factor fell to 86.9% in August from 88.1% a year earlier. The decline was attributed to increased seat capacity offered by airlines, including the use of larger aircraft and the expansion of flight networks.
The addition of new routes further increased available capacity, while passenger growth lagged behind the expansion in seats, resulting in a lower load factor than in August 2025.
Domestic passenger traffic totaled 968,000 in August, up 5.7% from a year earlier and accounting for 14% of total traffic. International passenger traffic reached 6.2 million, an increase of 5% year on year and representing 86% of the total.
The August figures extend a broader upward trend in Greek air travel. Passenger traffic across the country’s airports rose 7.6% in the first quarter of 2026, while international air arrivals increased 7.3% in the first half of the year.
Greece’s 14 Fraport-operated regional airports handled more than 37.1 million passengers in 2025, an annual increase of 3%.
Since the start of the concession, Fraport Greece’s airports have handled approximately 280 million passengers.
