Greece’s unemployment rate stood at 9% in March 2025, down from 10.8% in March 2024 but slightly higher than February 2025, when it was recorded at 8.6%, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

The latest data shows that the number of unemployed individuals fell to 424,575, representing a decrease of 92,985 people compared to March last year—a drop of 18%. However, on a monthly basis, unemployment rose by 20,940 individuals, marking a 5.2% increase from February 2025.

Unemployment among women remained notably higher than among men, although both genders saw improvements over the past year. The unemployment rate for women dropped to 11.7% from 14.3% in March 2024, while the rate for men declined to 6.9% from 8.1%.

Youth unemployment, however, rose compared to the previous year. Among individuals aged 15–24, the rate climbed to 25.2%, up from 22.7% in March 2024. In contrast, unemployment among the 25–74 age group fell to 8.2%, compared to 10.2% a year earlier.

Employment figures showed modest growth year-on-year. The number of employed persons reached 4,280,078 in March 2025, an increase of 22,835 compared to March 2024 (+0.5%). However, there was a decline of 29,586 jobs compared to February 2025 (-0.7%).

The number of individuals outside the labor force—those under 75 who are neither working nor actively seeking employment—rose to 3,053,322. This figure represents an increase of 44,889 compared to March 2024 (+1.5%) and 6,267 more than in February 2025 (+0.2%).
