Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held separate telephone conversations with the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid escalating tensions in the region.
During the calls, Mitsotakis was briefed on the latest developments in Lebanon. He acknowledged Israel’s right to self-defense, while stressing the need to avoid further escalation and prevent the opening of a new front through large-scale ground operations in southern Lebanon.
In his discussion with the Israeli prime minister, the Greek leader also addressed what was described as an unprovoked attack against Cyprus, as well as Greece’s defensive support to the island nation.
Separately, Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan. According to diplomatic sources, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the broader Middle East region, exchanging views on regional challenges and security concerns.
Greek authorities are closely monitoring developments and remain in coordination with regional partners, as contingency planning continues, including measures related to the safety of Greek citizens in the wider area.
