Μake us preferred on Google Areas of mainland and island Greece will face an elevated wildfire threat on Monday, according to the risk-prediction map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection. Authorities have placed numerous regions under an “orange” alert, signaling a very high, category 4 danger level.
The areas affected include the Region of Attica (including southern Kythera), the Region of Crete, the South Aegean, and Western Greece. Also on alert are the regional units of Lesbos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria in the North Aegean; Boeotia, Phthiotis and Evia in Central Greece; Magnesia and the Sporades in Thessaly; Halkidiki in Central Macedonia; Thasos in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace; and Corinthia and Laconia in the Peloponnese.
The Civil Protection Secretariat, under the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has notified relevant government services along with the regional and municipal authorities in these areas, urging heightened readiness for potential fire outbreaks.
Citizens have also been advised to exercise particular caution and avoid any outdoor activity that could spark a blaze through negligence — including burning dry grass, branches or garden waste, operating spark-generating equipment such as circular saws or welding tools, using outdoor grills, smoking out beehives, or discarding lit cigarettes. Authorities further reminded the public that field burning remains banned throughout the fire season.
