Secretary General of Greece’s ministry of Culture Giorgos Didaskalou submitted his resignation on Thursday over the ongoing corruption scandal involving Urban Planning Offices across Attica.
According to reports, Didaskalou, who had held his position since 2019 was led to resign after media outlets reported that one of his associates is named in the case file and is among the defendants who have not been arrested.
This is the third resignation of a secretary general connected to the same case. It follows the earlier departures of Efthymios Bakoyannis, Secretary General for Spatial Planning at the Ministry of Environment and Energy and Manos Logothetis, Secretary General of Migration Policy.
According to government sources, the resignations of several secretary generals who had remained in their positions for many years were requested. The same sources noted that the political leadership believes they have completed their cycle in office.
Police carried out raids and inspections at planning offices in the northern Athens suburbs of Maroussi, Galatsi and Kifissia last Friday, after a months-long investigation and arrested six individuals. Authorities say the network had been active since at least October 2025.
Members allegedly used their positions to intervene in planning cases in exchange for payments ranging from 1,000 to 30,000 euros per case, depending on the nature of the violation. The alleged services on offer included expedited or irregular building permits, the legalization of unauthorized constructions, the reduction of fines, and the favorable handling of pending planning files.
