Shooting at Mexican Pyramids: One Tourist Killed & Gunman Dead

Approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Mexico City, at the archaeological site of Teotihuacán, an armed individual opened fire, according to reports from Mexican media

A Canadian tourist was killed by the gunman’s bullets. The attacker then died by suicide atop the Pyramid of the Moon, the second largest structure at the site, standing 43 metres tall.

Several visitors were injured while trying to flee, three of whom are being treated in serious condition.

Mexican television broadcast video purportedly showing the moment the shots were fired inside the busy archaeological site, which is a popular tourist attraction drawing visitors from around the world.

The gunman’s motive remains unclear, and the area has been cordoned off by a strong police presence.
