The investigation into the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis is continuing with new testimony, allegations and questions surrounding the events at a medical clinic in central Athens.
As the two doctors from the Kolonaki clinic remain in custody, hypnotherapist Nasos Komianos appeared before an investigating magistrate and testified for about two hours.
At the center of his testimony was a photograph sent to him by one of the doctors accused in the case. The image showed Mazonakis with his eyes closed while undergoing plasmapheresis, a procedure in which plasma is separated from blood. The doctor also sent a message saying, “Everything is fine.”
Hypnotherapist questioned over messages
Komianos said Mazonakis had been running about 40 minutes late for an appointment on Monday, which led him to contact the doctor to find out whether the singer had arrived at the clinic on time and whether he would subsequently be late for their meeting.
“I was also surprised by the photograph. I was shocked and I am sorry for what happened. Before this message, we had also spoken by phone with the doctor,” he said, according to the report.
There were additional messages exchanged both before Mazonakis’ death became known and afterward.
According to the television program Live News, Komianos sent the doctor a text message that afternoon saying, “I got you into this,” a message that investigators are examining.
Komianos also provided investigators with a detailed record of his calls and messages.
Mystery woman arranged meeting
Komianos also referred investigators to a woman from Mazonakis’ professional circle who brought the two men into contact.
He said the woman contacted him two or three days before his planned meeting with Mazonakis in Psychiko, a northern suburb of Athens.
“Someone from Mazonakis’ professional circle called me two or three days before we met in Psychiko. She told me, ‘Mr. Mazonakis has seen you on social media and wants to meet you.’ We scheduled the appointment for Monday,” Komianos said.
He said he took notes during the conversation and handed them over to investigators.
Komianos said he did not conduct a hypnotherapy session with Mazonakis, but only spoke with him. The singer was due to meet him at 5 p.m. so that Komianos could take his full medical history, he said.
Collaboration agreement with doctor
Komianos acknowledged that he had a professional collaboration agreement with the doctor who is now in custody.
Under the agreement, he conducted hypnotherapy sessions at the 56-year-old doctor’s clinic.
A separate woman has also come forward to describe a hypnotherapy session she had with Komianos at her home.
The woman, identified as Dimitra, said she remained fully conscious during the session and did not enter a hypnotic state.
She described being asked questions such as where she was, what she could see and how she felt, characterizing the process as a kind of guided recollection.
When she told Komianos that she had remained conscious and had not been hypnotized, she said he explained that she belonged to the 1% of the population that is “spiritually awakened” and therefore could not be hypnotized.
Another patient was undergoing plasmapheresis
A separate case concerns what was happening inside the clinic when Mazonakis collapsed.
According to a former laboratory technician at the clinic on Karneadou Street who spoke to MEGA, another woman was undergoing plasmapheresis in a different room at the time Mazonakis collapsed in the presence of the two doctors who are now in custody.
“I wasn’t there, I wasn’t. The other appointment can really confirm it, because I was next to the other woman who was having ‘InusPheresis,’” the technician said.
She said she and the other patient realized that something was happening after noticing the panic at the clinic. Frightened, she said she closed the other room’s door because she was concerned about what the patient might think.
The judicial investigation is continuing, with the case file expanding and authorities examining an increasing number of people connected to the events surrounding Mazonakis’ death.
