Μake us preferred on Google Less than a week after a court decision sent two doctors to Korydallos Prison over the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, witness testimony begins Monday before the investigating judge.
Among the first witnesses expected to be questioned is the hypnotherapist, the person to whom the 56-year-old female doctor facing charges sent a photograph of Mazonakis during his plasmapheresis treatment, who will be asked to provide information about Mazonakis’ visit to the clinic where he suffered the cardiac arrest.
The decision by the remanded doctor to photograph the singer and send the image from the treatment to a third party at 2:45 p.m. has raised questions.
The hypnotherapist has acknowledged in statements that he had a professional relationship with the doctor, saying that he had an appointment with the singer at 5 p.m. that afternoon, after the, ultimately fatal, plasmapheresis treatment. For that reason, according to his account, the 56-year-old doctor sent him the photograph at 2:45 p.m. with the message, “all good.”
However, this is not the only communication that will be examined by the investigating judge. The focus of the investigation also includes all telephone contacts revealed after telecommunications privacy restrictions were lifted, involving the defendants and other people during the critical period when Giorgos Mazonakis was at the clinic.
The lifting of telecommunications privacy restrictions is expected to show whether the defendants spoke with particular people, how many times they contacted them and how long the conversations lasted. Those individuals are expected to be called to testify as part of the investigation and answer questions about the content of their conversations.
Among the witnesses who will be called to the investigating office are EMTs, the motorcycle paramedic who arrived at the medical office first, three minutes after the emergency call to 166, and the ambulance crew that picked up Mazonakis and transported him to the hospital.
The witness list will also include staff at the medical office, who are reportedly believed to have provided different accounts during the preliminary investigation about the time Mazonakis arrived.
The singer’s relatives will also be called to testify. From the outset, they have declared that they are participating in the proceedings in support of the prosecution, with one request: the exemplary punishment of those responsible for the death of their loved one.
Awaiting appeal against pretrial detention warrants
Meanwhile, within the week, the lawyer representing the two doctors in pretrial detention is expected to file an appeal with the judicial council against the detention warrants issued for his clients. In an official statement, the lawyer had already announced that he would appeal the detention of both defendants.
According to information, the appeal will initially concern the 58-year-old male defendant, for whom the defense will seek release from custody. The 58-year-old maintains that he bears no responsibility for Mazonakis’ death and says he was informed of the incident shortly after 4 p.m., while he was examining one of his own patients.
In support of his claim, he has submitted a copy of the electronic prescription system showing that at 4:06 p.m. he had issued a prescription for and examined his patient. That patient has testified as a defense witness.
