From Tuesday, November 11, three stations on Athens Metro Line 2—Neos Kosmos, Agios Ioannis, and Dafni—will close 2.5 hours earlier than usual each night to allow essential track replacement and 5G network installation. These changes will continue until December 12.

Scope of the Project

The works involve the replacement of 32 kilometers of rails, part of the largest infrastructure project in the Athens Metro since its opening. This upgrade focuses on the original sections of Lines 2 and 3, including Seppolia–Dafni and Monastiraki–Ethniki Amyna. The project, budgeted at €7.3 million, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.

Implemented by STASY, the works are part of preventive maintenance and targeted network upgrades aimed at maintaining high safety and reliability standards.

Service Adjustments and Bus Alternatives

During the early-night closures, train services will continue on unaffected sections:

  • Elliniko – Agios Dimitrios
  • Anthoupoli – Sygrou-Fix

For passengers affected by the closed stations, the public transport authority OASA has launched temporary circular bus line X13 running between Sygrou-Fix and Agios Dimitrios, stopping at Neos Kosmos, Agios Ioannis, and Dafni.

Last Train Times Before Station Closures

Passengers should note the last departures before nightly closures:

  • Syntagma → Elliniko: 21:40
  • Neos Kosmos → Elliniko: 21:44
  • Neos Kosmos → Anthoupoli: 21:51
  • Agios Ioannis → Elliniko: 21:45
  • Agios Ioannis → Anthoupoli: 21:50
  • Dafni → Elliniko: 21:47

Dual Upgrades for Efficiency

The metro works will be carried out during night hours in stages at different locations, allowing track replacement and 5G installation to proceed simultaneously, minimizing disruption to overall metro operations.

Passengers are advised to plan travel ahead and make use of the temporary bus service while the upgrades are underway.
