A distinctly autumnal turn in the weather is expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with rain and localized thunderstorms forecast across much of Greece, a significant drop in temperatures, and winds reaching 6-7 on the Beaufort scale over the seas, according to the latest forecasts.
On Tuesday, the weather will be more severe across mainland Greece and the North Aegean, with particular attention focused on parts of Halkidiki and the North Aegean, especially the Sporades, where rain and thunderstorms could be intense. In western, central and northern mainland Greece, thunderstorms may also be accompanied by hail.
The temperature will fall noticeably. In Western Macedonia, temperatures will range from 8 to 23 degrees Celsius; in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace, from 9 to 26; in Epirus, from 11 to 27; in Thessaly, from 11 to 27; in the rest of mainland Greece, from 12 to 28-29; in Crete, from 11 to 29; in the Ionian Islands, from 19 to 26; in the North and Northeast Aegean islands, from 15 to 20-21; and in the rest of the Aegean islands, from 15 to 27-29 degrees Celsius.
The winds in the Aegean and Ionian seas will generally be from the north, reaching 6-7 on the Beaufort scale. In the Aegean, the winds will temporarily weaken after noon but will strengthen again from the evening onward.
In Attica, cloudy skies are expected, with rain and possible localized thunderstorms in the afternoon. Winds will be northerly at 3-4 on the Beaufort scale, reaching 5 in eastern areas. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, with a further drop from the afternoon onward.
In Thessaloniki, rain will occur initially, followed by a rapid improvement. Winds will be northerly at up to 3-4 on the Beaufort scale, while temperatures will range from 19 to 25 degrees Celsius.
