The body of a 17-year-old girl who had been reported missing was recovered Friday morning in the waters of the Corinth Canal, in the Poseidonia area near the Isthmus of Corinth.

Authorities were alerted at around 9 a.m., triggering a recovery operation. The girl was located by a private diver operating from a boat, in the presence of a Hellenic Coast Guard patrol vessel.

Her body was transported by ambulance to Corinth General Hospital, where she was later identified by her family.

According to initial reports, the teenager, a resident of Psychiko, had been reported missing Thursday evening at the local police department. Her mobile phone signal was traced to the wider Corinth area, prompting the search that led to her discovery.

Her parents are at the Isthmia port authority as officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
