An anonymous caller phoned the French Embassy in Athens at 11:40 a.m., warning that an explosive device had been placed inside the building.
A unit from the Hellenic Police’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department rushed to the scene and is conducting sweeps of the embassy premises.
As a precaution, police have halted vehicle traffic on Akadimias Street, one of the main arteries running through central Athens, from the junction with Kanari Street. The measure is aimed at keeping the area clear while officers complete their checks.
Authorities have not said whether any suspicious device has been found, nor have they identified the caller or a possible motive.
