Burglary Ring Targeting Luxury Homes Dismantled in Greece

Greek police have dismantled a criminal network accused of systematically breaking into high-end residences in Athens’ southern suburbs, with members allegedly operating in coordinated roles including lookout, planning, and execution

Greek police have dismantled a criminal organisation accused of carrying out a series of burglaries targeting luxury homes in the southern suburbs of Athens.

Authorities say the group operated in a structured manner, with members assigned specific roles such as planning, breaking into properties, and acting as lookouts. A formal case has been filed against them for participation in a criminal organization, repeated aggravated theft, money laundering, and violations related to movement restrictions.

According to investigators, the group had been active since at least the spring of 2025, focusing on high-value residences with the aim of obtaining financial gain. Members reportedly approached homes on foot and from different directions to avoid detection.

Once they confirmed that residents were absent, they would force entry, mainly through balcony doors or windows. Inside, they stole cash, jewelry, electronic devices, and other valuable items. In some cases, they also removed entire safes along with their contents.

Police describe the organization as having a clear internal structure. The group’s alleged leader, a 35-year-old man, is said to have directed and supervised operations, coordinating the burglaries and the involvement of his associates.

Two other members, aged 29 and 52, were reportedly responsible for operational tasks, including entering properties and keeping watch during the crimes.

Investigators believe the suspects financed their lifestyle primarily through proceeds from the burglaries. They are also accused of transferring illicit funds abroad through money transfer businesses.

So far, authorities have linked the group to at least eight burglary cases and attempted break-ins in several upscale coastal areas near Athens.

Some of the suspects were already in custody for other offences, while others had previous criminal records for similar activities. The 35-year-old and 52-year-old suspects are currently imprisoned, while a European arrest warrant has been issued for the 29-year-old, who remains at large.

The case has now been forwarded to a judicial investigator, who has ordered continued detention for the alleged leader and imposed restrictive conditions on one of the other suspects as proceedings continue.
