The child was in the yard of his grandmother’s house when he approached a large dog that was being cared for by members of the family, according to initial information. The animal then attacked the boy, causing severe injuries.

Medical reports indicate that the child sustained extensive bite wounds to the face and neck. He was first taken to a hospital in Chania, where doctors worked to stabilise his condition and treat his injuries.

Following emergency medical intervention and a lengthy surgical procedure, the boy was transferred to a larger hospital in Heraklion, where he is currently being treated in the intensive care unit.

Healthcare staff continue to monitor his condition closely as he receives specialised care.
