Greek energy group Metlen has signed a binding five-year agreement with Shell Global LNG Limited to purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG), securing supplies for Greece and other European markets starting in 2027.

Under the agreement, announced Monday, Nov. 2, Shell will deliver six LNG cargoes annually, equivalent to approximately 600 million cubic meters of natural gas per year. The supplies will come primarily from Shell’s U.S. LNG portfolio.

The deal follows a memorandum of understanding signed by the two companies in February 2026 and establishes a long-term supply arrangement covering five years.

The LNG will be delivered to Metlen for sale in Greece or other European gas markets, including through the Vertical Gas Corridor, a network of gas infrastructure linking Greece with markets in Southeast and Central Europe.

For Metlen, the agreement is part of a strategy to diversify its gas supply sources and expand its trading activities in European energy markets. It also gives the company greater flexibility in deciding where to sell the gas, depending on market demand.

“This agreement with Shell translates our shared ambition into a long-term supply partnership,” said Panayotis Kanellopoulos, Metlen’s chief executive director for international energy supply and trading. Kanellopoulos said the arrangement would strengthen the company’s supply portfolio and provide greater flexibility to serve customers in Greece and elsewhere in Europe.

Tom Summers, executive vice president for LNG marketing and trading at Shell, said the companies would also explore opportunities to expand their cooperation.

The agreement combines Shell’s international LNG supply and shipping operations with Metlen’s trading activities and presence in Southeast Europe.

The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the contract or specify the European markets where the LNG would ultimately be sold.
