Although officials at Maximos Mansion insist that the country has not yet entered an election period and that there is still plenty of time before voters head to the polls, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is stepping up preparations within both the government and his ruling New Democracy party.

The week begins with two meetings chaired by the prime minister: a Cabinet meeting in the morning and a session of New Democracy’s Executive Secretariat in the afternoon. Both will focus on planning for the period leading up to the next election.

The Cabinet Meeting

At 11 a.m. at Maximos Mansion, ministers will seek to draw up a roadmap for the remainder of the government’s term. Following opening remarks by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Minister of State Akis Skertsos, each minister will present three or four key priorities for their respective portfolios.

Hatzidakis has already outlined the government’s approach, telling ERTnews that the aim is to ensure that the administration continues delivering results through the final stretch of its term.

While ministers are already increasing their appearances in their electoral constituencies, gradually stepping up their efforts to secure votes, they are now being asked to identify which outstanding issues they intend to resolve and what results they hope to deliver before the end of the government’s term.

The discussion comes against the backdrop of repeated warnings from the prime minister to ministers and lawmakers about their conduct in public.

At the previous Cabinet meeting, on September 30, Mitsotakis stressed that “it is my responsibility to evaluate the individual conduct of members of Parliament and ministers.” During a recent visit to Kilkis, northern Greece, he returned to the issue, warning against complacency and arrogance and urging party officials to listen to citizens and their concerns.

The agenda for Monday’s meeting also includes measures concerning public transportation, employment and the justice system.

George Kotsiras will present an update on progress and plans for urban public transportation. Labor Minister Niki Kerameus will introduce legislation setting rules for the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace and protecting workers on digital platforms.

Justice Minister George Floridis will present a bill to transform the Judicial Police into a Security Corps, while Deputy Sports Minister Giannis Vroutsis will outline measures to bring Greek legislation into line with the revised World Anti-Doping Code.

Bills containing additional provisions from the Interior and Development ministries will also be presented.

New Democracy’s Executive Secretariat

At 5:30 p.m., attention will shift to Piraeus, where Mitsotakis will chair the first meeting of New Democracy’s Executive Secretariat since its election in June.

The prime minister is expected to set out three main priorities: electoral readiness, strengthening party unity and stepping up direct engagement with citizens.

His own regional visits, along with those by party delegations, have already become more frequent. The campaign is being coordinated by Konstantinos Kyranakis, Ioannis Smyrlis, Thanasis Kontadakis and George Nezis.

New Democracy Secretary Konstantinos Kyranakis will present an assessment of the regional visits carried out since the summer across Western Greece, the Peloponnese, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central and Western Macedonia, Epirus, the Dodecanese and the Ionian Islands. He will also outline plans for the next round of visits.

His presentation will include initiatives to involve the party’s grassroots membership in drafting the government’s policy program, as well as efforts to renew the party’s organizational structure and prepare its candidate lists for the next election.
