A dramatic police chase unfolded early Sunday in Antirrio, western Greece, after a driver refused to stop for a police inspection and fled, leading officers on a pursuit that ended with a patrol car being rammed.
The incident occurred near the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, in the Agios Panteleimonas area, causing concern among local residents as police launched a major operation to locate the suspect.
According to authorities, the driver attempted to evade officers during the chase and collided with a police vehicle before abandoning his car in a rural area near the local cemetery.
The suspect then escaped on foot, taking advantage of the darkness and the area’s terrain, while police continued searches in the wider region.
The abandoned vehicle has been recovered and transferred for forensic examination as investigators look for possible illegal items or other evidence that could assist the investigation.
Residents reported hearing gunshots during the police operation, although the claim has not been confirmed by authorities.
Police investigations to identify and arrest the driver remain ongoing.
