A 30-year-old Egyptian man is being sent to prison after his arrest last Friday in Glyfada, shortly after he picked up a defensive hand grenade he intended to plant at the home of Isidoros Ntogiakos, a former prosecutor at Greece’s Supreme Court.
The accused testified on charges of aggravated weapons possession, and reportedly repeated to the investigating judge what he had already told police during the preliminary investigation: that he had received orders from an inmate at Diavata Prison, who is serving a life sentence for premeditated murder, to plant the grenade at the prosecutor’s home in exchange for 2,500 euros.
The 30-year-old had received the defensive grenade inside a glass handed to him by a 27-year-old Greek man, who remains at large.
Finally, the Diavata Prison inmate is charged with instigating the aggravated weapons possession offense. He has been given until tomorrow to testify, when he will be asked to answer specific questions about the offense attributed to him.
