New details have emerged in the investigation into the failed grenade attack that took place several days ago near the home of Isidoros Dogiakos, the former prosecutor of Greece’s Supreme Court, as authorities focus on both how the attack was organized and the individuals involved.
According to Greece’s public broadcaster ERT, the Egyptian national tasked with carrying out the attack received a €500 advance payment and had agreed to collect an additional €2,000 after completing the operation.
Investigators believe his role was limited to carrying out the attack and that he was not responsible for planning it.
The Hellenic Police Counterterrorism Service has now turned its attention to identifying another individual believed to have played a key role in preparing and coordinating the attack.
So far, authorities have identified three people connected to the case. However, investigators believe at least one additional accomplice remains at large.
According to the analysis of available evidence and witness statements, the attack was not spontaneous but had been planned in advance, with clearly defined roles assigned to those involved. Investigators are therefore working to map the suspects’ communications and determine who gave the final instructions for carrying out the attack.
Particular attention is being given to the suspects’ communications before and after the incident, as authorities believe they could reveal crucial information about the alleged mastermind or others who may have provided logistical support.
Investigators are also reviewing surveillance camera footage and analyzing digital evidence in an effort to accurately reconstruct the suspects’ movements before and after the attempted attack.
Police stress that the grenade’s failure to detonate does not diminish the seriousness of the case, noting that had the explosive device functioned as intended, the consequences could have been severe.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities expressing confidence that the latest evidence will soon lead to the identification of the fourth person believed to have participated in organizing the attack.
