Fake Utility Workers Steal Gold From Elderly Woman

A 79-year-old woman was tricked into handing over gold coins, watches and jewelry after fraudsters posing as electricity network workers targeted her home in northern Greece.

A 79-year-old woman has fallen victim to a fraud scheme after suspects posing as utility company workers stole gold coins and valuable jewelry from her home in northern Greece.

The incident took place in the Stavroupoli area, where the elderly woman reported being deceived by individuals claiming to work for the country’s electricity distribution network.

According to her complaint, the suspects convinced her to leave a plastic bag containing her valuables outside her home.

The bag reportedly contained 23 British gold sovereigns, two gold watches, rings and other gold jewelry of significant value. After taking the bag, the suspects fled the scene.

The incident was reported to authorities last Saturday.

Police have launched a preliminary investigation, which is being handled by the local criminal investigation unit.
