Authorities in Chania, on the Greek island of Crete, are investigating a serious case of domestic violence involving a 16-year-old boy with autism, who has a certified disability rate of 79%.
According to police sources, a 47-year-old father was arrested on Sunday under the country’s “in flagrante” procedure and is facing charges related to domestic abuse against his minor son.
The case came to light after a complaint was filed by the boy’s mother, who is also the suspect’s wife. She reported to authorities that on Saturday night the man struck the teenager with his hands, causing physical injuries.
She also told authorities this was not the first violent incident inside the family home.
She specifically accused her husband of attacking the teenager again a month prior, hitting him on the head, face and body. She also claimed he had locked the boy inside the home’s storage room.
A forensic medical examination has been ordered for the minor in order to document his injuries and include the findings in the case file.
