The weather across Greece is turning summery today, Tuesday, with clear skies and abundant sunshine marking the beginning of a warm spell that’s expected to develop into a mini heatwave in the coming days. Temperatures are on the rise, and by the end of the week, the mercury is forecast to climb as high as 37°C in some areas.

A heatwave is spreading across the country, bringing sunshine to most areas, though brief midday clouds and light showers may appear in northern and central mountain regions.

The temperature will continue its upward trend, reaching around 30–32°C by midday on the mainland, and locally peaking at 33°C. In the Aegean islands, maximum temperatures will hover near 30°C.

Winds in the Ionian Sea will blow from the west at 2 to 4 on the Beaufort scale, while in the Aegean, northerly winds will dominate, ranging from 2 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to 5. In the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, gusts may reach 6 Beaufort.

Meteorologists are warning of a “heat dome” forming over the region — a phenomenon caused by a persistent high-pressure system that traps warm air beneath it. This dome is expected to linger over Greece for at least a week, driving temperatures even higher and ushering in a period of sustained heat, with some areas possibly seeing highs close to 39°C.

The heat will become more pronounced from Wednesday onward, particularly in areas sensitive to high temperatures, such as Thessaly, Central Macedonia, Fthiotida, Boeotia, Aetolia-Acarnania, and the Peloponnese.

On Wednesday, the forecast from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) points to generally fair weather, with only a few local clouds forming in the afternoon over mountainous mainland regions.

Winds will continue from the north at 2 to 4 Beaufort, reaching 5 in parts of the Aegean. Temperatures will rise slightly, peaking at 28–30°C on the islands and reaching 31–33°C inland, with some spots seeing as high as 34°C.
